It's 1:47am, Christmas Morning, December 25th, 2006. The scene opens with the date and time in bright white, bold letters overlaid on the screen as a movie title, with the camera looking out of a window to a cold winter night, snow gently falling and fog on the glass from the interior heat.
The camera then slowly pulls back from the closeup window show and pans over to Dan, laying in his bed asleep, still in his clothes and flat brim baseball cap from the day before. It's late at night, and he is sound asleep.
Suddenly, a voice with a Japanese accent calls out from somewhere in the room — unseen.
"Daniel-san."
Dan stirs in his bed, slightly awoken by the voice, but he thinks it's a dream. He is still half-asleep.
As Dan stirs in his bed, the voice is heard again, louder this time.
"Daniel-san."
The camera cuts to a closeup shot of Dan, with the camera above his bed, close in on his face, as his eyes open, startled. He lays silently, trying to figure out if the voice he is hearing is from inside his room or inside his dream.
After a tense, silent pause, the voice speaks again, this time more determined.
"Daniel-san!"
Dan sits up in his bed, with a puzzled look on his face as he looks around.
Dan calls out, "Mr. Miyagi?"
Suddenly, his closet door busts open abruptly, and all we see inside the closet is darkness. Derek steps out — wearing a long red sleeping robe with a wife beater white tank top and black athletic joggers underneath.
Derek says, "no you fuckin idiot, it's me, Derek."
Dan, super confused at this point, asks Derek, "Why the fuck are you talking like that?"
Derek responds, "man, I don't know, it just felt right. But that's besides the point, do you see me?"
Dan responds, "what the fuck do you mean, yeah I see you. What the fuck are you doing in my closet. Am I dreaming?"
Derek, now walking closer to Dan, who is still laying in the bed upright now, says, "Look at me - do you notice anything?"
Dan responds, "man what the fuck is this, you're creeping me the fuck out."
Derek, now standing bedside, staring down at Dan, says, "Creeped out? That's the last of your worries boy boy. Look at me."
Dan rubs his eyes to clear his sleepiness and takes a close look at Derek's face.
After a moment, he realizes that it's Derek, but it's an older version of the Derek he knows.
Dan says, "why do you look so old?"
Derek responds, "I'm the ghost of your fantasy football future - here to warn you about the year 2026. I'm 41 years old bitch. One day you will realize that aint shit."
Dan, now slightly concerned and freaked out, gets out of his bed and attempts to push Derek, but his hands go right through his body — Derek is a ghost.
Derek laughs, "man, how you gonna try to push a ghost? This is ghost 101, you can't touch me."
Derek then slaps Dan in the face — a hard smack that knocks his hat off.
Derek says, "but I can still touch you. And that hat was pissing me off anyway."
Dan, now holding his cheek from the slap, cries out, "What do you want?!"
Derek, now serious, steps in closer and whispers into Dan's ear, "In the year 2026, I will have the most dominant fantasy football team of all time. If I was you, I wouldn't bother showing up to the draft."
Just as Derek speaks his last word, he vanishes from thin air.
Dan looks around the room startled. He then runs out his bedroom door and opens the bedroom door to his brother Rich's room and busts in.
Rich, sound asleep before Dan came busting in the room, sits up fast in the bed, a startled and scared look on his face.
Rich says to Dan, now standing next to his bed, "Daniel, what the fuck are you doing. Are you sleep walking again?"
Dan, panicking, stumbling over his words, says, "Derek... room,... Derek, 41 year old Derek was in my room. Warning about fantasy football in 2026.."
Rich, annoyed and confused by Dan, says, "Daniel, get the fuck out of here and go back to sleep. You're still dreaming. Derek is in Rochester, he couldn't get home with the snow this year for Christmas."
Dan starts crying from fear as the scene fades to black.
