Finish · Voice and dialogue

Give the character a voice of their own.

A voice is part of the performance. Use a voice sample to guide a character, work on an individual line, and hear the change against the rest of the scene.

Voice and dialogue

Listen to the line. Hear the scene.

Changing the words and changing the voice are different creative decisions. StoryDirector gives you a separate path for each, with a preview before the replacement becomes part of your saved cut.

01

Bring a voice sample

Upload a clean recording from someone who has agreed to this use. Create a character voice profile for the story and use it when preparing a dialogue replacement.

Use one person speaking naturally in a quiet space, without music.

02

Choose words or voice

Rewrite dialogue to generate a new reading, or use Voice only to retain the recorded words and delivery while changing the voice. Start from a checked line so the replacement has a defined place in the scene.

Keep the line and performance; change the character voice.

03

Finish the mix around the performance

Listen for timing, tone and how the replacement sits with surrounding sound. Use the editor’s volume, fades, music and voice-over controls as you shape the final version.

Compare the original and replacement in context before saving.

Questions worth asking.

Can I use my own voice or a friend’s?

Yes, with the speaker’s permission. Upload a clear recording and follow the sample guidance in the app. Voice profiles are associated with the story.

Does replacing dialogue also fix lip sync?

No. This workflow replaces the audio, not the picture. A rewritten line may not match the existing mouth movement, so compare it with the visible performance before saving.

Should I rewrite the line or use Voice only?

Use Rewrite dialogue when the words need to change. Use Voice only when you want the existing words and delivery with a different character voice.
